Is a cistern used for collecting rain water?
If used for fire supression, how was the water pumped up from below ground?

Possibly Speed and Sport Inc. or the Big Minnow Shop, both in the 9900 block of HHs at the circle.

Thank you Marilyn.
I think it is important to distinguish between a "dance hall" where you could take a date and dance to live music, and a "taxi dance hall" where a male bought tickets to dance with a "hostess".

Well comic books were still a dime in 1960. But point well taken.
I can go as high as 15 to 20 cents a dance. But I draw the line at 25 cents.

I don't know if Cullum and Boren was bought out. They had several buildings on Elm, Pacific and Federal. The one between Pacific and Federal was torn down in the late 70s.
There was a Buckhorn Tavern(213)and Buckhorn Trading Post at 215 S. Ervay. Alfred D. Hodge owner.
I suspect they are long gone.

This may be a dumb or naive question, but were there any dime a dance establishments in Dallas? I have only seen these in old movies. Usually they are in New York City or cities with large military bases.
Did they ever have these in Dallas?

Thanks Bill. I believe I now see where I went wrong. This list of theaters in the 1959 Mapsco is for all of Dallas County. It includes the Uptown Theater in Grand Prairie. But it doesn't list the name of the town. Someone who is not familar with the Uptown would just have the Main St. address to go by and could think it was Main st. in Dallas.
So this could be a Texan theater on a Davis s

Does anyone remember an incident in Kiest Park in the early 70s when there was a malfunction of the fireworks display and they exploded all at one time or they all went off too early? I've heard differing accounts. Some say that people were seriously injured and others say the grand finale just fired off at the beginning of the show and no one was hurt.

Is there any information on the Texan movie theater located at 214 W. Davis? This is just one block West of Zang. It's listed as being there in 1959.
Actually it's not listed in a 1959 Dallas City Directory. I ran across it in a 1959 Mapsco of Dallas. In the front of the Mapsco are listings of Dallas schools, churches, shopping centers and movie theaters. The Texan shows up on that list.

Thanks. I recently took a look at the one in Hillsboro but it doesn't resemble the one that I have a photo of. I'm not sure my Thunderbird Motel is in DFW. It's just a guess. It might be in the Houston/Galveston area.
And it may be Thunderbird Apartments, not motel.
Thanks.

Thanks Jim. I had never heard of it before just recently. It was located on the corner of Commerce and Lane St. I don't know if Lane St. still exists. Zoo Bar was at 1600 Commerce and across the street was Neiman Marcus at 1607.
There may have been a later incarnation of the Zoo Bar on NW Highway in the 70s but that's not the one I'm looking for info on.
thanks
