Before DCCC took that location over the original Tolbert's Texas Chili Parlor was located on the ground floor on the Elm Street side. Every Saturday night in 1976/77 they had a blues jam there and I used to sit in on bass for a set. Those sessions would go on all night and was not unusual for them to break up when the sun was rising on Sunday morning. Never had any trouble from the cops and th

Ben S.'s political comments aside (yawn), that pic of Mona Lisa in a convertable with the wind in her hair is pretty damn cool!!! Thanks for the link Greg and BTW now that I'm back living in in the Loon Star State we should have a beer or three and talk things over around Thanksgiving when Old Man From Dallas can join us. Might proove somewhat intellectually profound or just quickly devolve in

Joe T's is still at the same location in Ft. Worth and still the same menu with the same three items to choose from. An iconic place but just not my cup of "T".

Yes, the Electric Ballroom, which was originally the Aragon Ballroom, was on Industrial. Went to several shows there in the 70s and thought it to be a great experience as it was a corrugated tin roofed and sided building similar to the Sportatorium. Pretty funky place and was real sad to see it go as I was for the Sportatorium also.

Joey Chitwod had a travelling auto thrill show that preformed every year at the race track, went to see it every year during the fair as a child in the 50s until they tore the track down.

Noticed on the Abandoned and Little Used Airfields website that Flyer's Field, that was located where Mountain View College is currently, is now listed with a few pics and some comments from yours truly.

It will pass directly over our farm in western Kentucky but alas, we now live in Ft. Worth. Have a couple of old skydiving buddies from Dallas that are going to make the drive with their families to the farm and watch it from atop the big hill.

Listened to the Zoo for a couple of years after it first aired then it became more commercial and started listening Q102 for a while. In the early 80s I was one of two guys that were the Q102 Skydiver.

Made several skydives at Hartlee Field in the 80s at a small drop zone there. At that time there was a WWI era aircraft museum there with several original and replica airplanes of that time period, all flyable.

I was in the Air Force in Austin 65/68 and most married, living off base, lower rank enlisteds shopped at the base BX but still had to be on that era's version of Food Stamps to even make ends meet.

Had a large Dearborn gas heater in the living room of our small house on Western St. in the middle to late 50s which replaced a large open flame ceramic heater on which one could get burned pretty easily if one came into the slightest contact with. There were smaller ceramics in each bedroom that were left burning on low all night but the Dearborn was turned off at night making for a very chilly

Bill Strouse, one of the original members of this message board dating back to the late 90s
passed away early this morning. He and I had kept in touch throughout the years here and on
a few Facebook pages. Really nice guy and will be missed.

My memories of that period are pretty well in common with everyone else but the one that still makes me smile was when Dallas hired a rainmaker sometime in that period by the name of Dr. Crick to seed clouds in in the area. Don't remember any positive results from his efforts nor many positive comments about the scheme from the adults in our realm. LOL

The car on the roof as a Christmas decoration was at the home of the owner of Snuffy Smith Motors and was on or around Southwood Street in the vicinity of Kimball High School. Used to hang out some with his son Billy way back in the day.

RWillams, At that same time period I was a frequent patron of that same A&P. Once witnessed the robbery of the customer service kiosk while an employee was counting cash inside the booth. I heard the lady scream and witnessed the thief grab all the cash being counted. To this day I couldn't give a description of the robber as to race, height, color of hair, clothing, weight, height, etc and I

sharkins, not according to the DMN article. Seems the landlord is raising the rent on the tennants so much as to make it impossible to stay open but no mention of it being subject to the wrecking ball.

Was saddened to read of the demise of Ship's Lounge on Greenville Ave. I have fond memories of that place in its original location next to my dad's barber shop in the Steven's Park Shopping Center prior to the wet/dry election in 1957 that was so financially devistating to Oak Cliff. Later on, would make a point to stop by the Greenville location if in the neighborhood after becoming of legal age

Worked at the A&P at Hampton and Kiest in 1962 and it was managed by Mr. Cathy. Thought him rather eccentric at the time but hey, he was good enough to give me a summer job that paid for the metallic blue paint job on my car.

Used to pass Lolaville on my way to skydive at Aero Country airport in the early/mid 80s several times a week. All that was there then was the defunct fruit stand and the sign.
M.C., was given a sizeable gift certificate to April's for my 50th birthday...............spent every cent of it there too. :-)
