I am in Arlington, about 1 block from Pantego. Mon. I had about 12inches
of snow on my uncovered balcony and my table and chairs.
AFAIK there have been no electric outages in this immediate area.
This AM (Wed) water pressure was barely a trickle. Haven't heard
the cause but a little concerned about potability. Fri, got 4 cases
of bottled water delivered from ALDI along with my groceries.

One was on Polk St about 2 blocks South of Jefferson.
It had a large, maybe 3 stories tall, wooden cooling tower
with lots of ice picks stuck in the wood. Too dull to use or a
game or both?
I might be misremembering, but I believe that plant had an
ammonia leak that caused an evacuation of several surrounding
blocks

I have been self-isolated since early Mar. My only human contact is to pass
a tip thru a cracked open door to Amazon grocery delivery people. After they
are gone, I bring the groceries in. ANYTHING that comes thru my door is
sanitized or not touched again for several days. I have a 15inch plugin UV-C
lamp and 2 much smaller battery operated UV-C hand wands. Also three

Thanks Paula
That's exactly as I remembered the kerosene dispensers looking.
You might already be aware of the SMU Jones Film Youtube channel?

My maternal Grandmother made Kerosene Soap. IIRC gas stations back
in those days had a large square metal (20-30gal?) with a hand pump on top,
and that's where we got our kerosene
I remember stepping on a board with a rusty nail and soaking my foot in kerosene.

My earliest memory of eating black eyed peas for luck first thing New Year's
morning, was that the peas were the first food in your mouth that day.
As I recall, it was BPs, greens and cornbread. The BP represented coins,
the greens paper money the cornbread gold. Additionally, my Gmother would
create a tiny cachet with uncooked BP inside, that the female family members
carried in their purse

I misspoke, although I was in CA in '64, I "think" the 2010 event
was also late one day and into the next morning.
We spent almost all of our married life after I returned from CA,
around Lake Ray Hubbard and making a short commute back
into Dallas and I always drove her in and back if the weather
was a problem or go pick her up if bad weather happened

Don't know why my link didn't go to the right page when clicke on.
I can put the URL into my browser, and this is the list that come up.

the Feb 11-12 2010 was 12.5"

Welcome back Dave, Brrrrrr!
Close but not quite. The heaviest on record in Big D was 11.20" Feb 11, 2010
The Jan 15, 1964 was 2nd at a mere 7.80"
My real reason for chiming in is to reiterate how much I HATE snow.
So if I was home from CA in Jan '64 and there was even a hint of
a chance of snow, I'm certain I would have scurried my behind
back to SF. Brrrrrrrrrr!

Hey, Steve
You've been been a member much longer than I have.
So you know most of us are semi-friendly old geezers
just sharing and refreshing old memories. Sharing our
history seems to be an innate quality of the human
species.
Like you, I don't do facebook, mostly because it is rife
with hackers, and although my laptops are well

I started prepping about mid Feb and have been self-isolated since
early Mar, except taking out garbage. That, plus the insanity going on
right now, puts most everyone on edge.It has given me a new understanding
of the old alleged Chinese 'curse': "May you live in interesting times."
On the bright side, I might never go to another grocery store. I get groceries

If you think that viruses are the only danger from a "questionable" site,
then expect a call from an "IRS" scammer who has stolen your private
information while you were online

You can get "Blood Aces" AudioBook free with a free 30 day trial
to Amazon's Audible Plus AudioBook site:
Look for a play arrow beneath the pic of the book cover for audio sample.

I got "Blood Aces" a couple of years ago as an eBook in epub format.
If you have access to a good Usenet or torrent D/L site, it's probably still available.
I have switched from hard copy to eBook format because being able to
adjust size and type of fonts enables me to read without glasses.
Plus there are thousands of FREE eBooks available on Amazon.

Never saw any rats, but as I recall, that plant was on that sharp intersection
of Zang at Marsalis right before the Houston St viaduct. So, might've been river
rats. But that's been about 65yrs ago, so it could be just a dream.

Hey Dave
My first experience with CC was when we lived in Sunnyvale, TX for a short time.
My wife's mother had them delivered to their home in rhe Casa View area.
So we had them delivered there for a time. But we soon found a great
tri-level townhouse in a large townhouse/condominium/apt developrment
on the Garland side of Lake Ray Hubbard, right where Chaha Rd turns
into Lake Hubbard Pkw
