On this date (February 13) 2021, a wife expecting a child lost a husband, his stepson lost a father, his father and mother lost a son and Dallas lost a Police Officer.
Police Officer Mitchell Aaron Penton, Badge Number 11654, age 27 died as a result of injuries sustained as he stood at the left side of his marked police vehicle with emergency lights illuminated blocking northbound North Central Expressway at Walnut Hill Lane.
Officer Penton had just arrived at this location at approximately 1:45 a.m. and exited his vehicle to obtain flares to block the roadway for a previously occurred accident. A vehicle traveling at a extremely high rate of speed, driven by Phillip Mabry, age 32, collided to the rear of the police vehicle which rotated rapidly upon impact striking Officer Penton.
Officer Penton was transported to Baylor Hospital where he died shortly after arrival.
Phillip Mabry was found to be intoxicated. He was charged with Intoxication Manslaughter and Intoxication Assault as a passenger in his vehicle was also injured.
At this time there have been several resets for trial, Phillip Mabry was released from the Dallas County Jail on $225,000 bond.
Police Officer Mitchell Aaron Penton, a two year veteran of the Dallas Police is interred at Restland Memorial Park Cemetery, Dallas, Texas.
