On This Date (July 28) 1972 a wife lost a husband, his son and daughter lost a father and Dallas lost a Reserve Police Officer.

Reserve Dallas Police Officer Joe Cobb Jones was a passenger in a Dallas Police Vehicle which was en route to an Assist Officer call at 723 South Beacon Street, the Frontier Lounge, where two Officers were assaulted by a group involved in a fight involving knives.

At the intersection of Live Oak Street and North Fitzhugh Avenue the vehicle in which Reserve Officer was a passenger collided with another Dallas Police vehicle, also en route to the Assist Officer call. Both police vehicles involved were operating with emergency lights and sirens when the collision occurred.

Reserve Officer Joe Cobb Jones was transported to Baylor Hospital where he died as a result of the injuries sustained in this accident. The two Dallas Police Officers driving the vehicles involved were also seriously injured, but were able to return to active service.


Reserve Officer Joe Cobb Jones is interred at Restland Cemetery, Dallas, Texas.
