On This Date (June 13) 1901 a brother and sister lost a brother and Dallas lost a Police Officer.

Officer Leslie N. Patrick, age 29 died as a result of injuries sustained on June 11, 1901 as he and his partner, Officer Duncan attempted to arrest a suspect for the theft of a horse.

A struggle began at which time the suspect pulled a revolver, first striking Officer Patrick with the weapon at which time it discharged striking Officer Patrick in the head.

Officer Duncan was able to subdue the suspect, then sought aid for his critically wounded partner.

Officer Patrick was taken to the Saint Paul Sanitarium where he died as a result of these injuries on June 13, 1901.

The suspect was indicted and tried for the Murder of Officer Patrick and was assessed a penalty of forty years in the Texas State Prison. This conviction was appealed and a new trial granted. He was again found guilty and was assessed a penalty of five years for the death of Officer Patrick and two years for the theft of the horse.

Officer Leslie N. Patrick is interred in the Edgewood Cemetery, Lancaster, Texas
