Wow! No State Fair this year. First year since WWII that there is no Texas State Fair in Dallas. Fully understandable that it has to be cancelled, but a real bummer. Of course, I haven't been in decades, but that doesn't mean that I don't think it is sad that it isn't to be, or that I wouldn't like to go (in a normal year) if I were within reasonable striking distance.
Wow, great memories of the fair. My favorites were always the (never politically correct) Automobile Building, livestock, and the Midway. Who could not appreciate The Comet (the old wooden roller coaster)? I also liked the Hall of State, the aquarium, and the Natural History Museum, but those were available year round, and I sometimes went at other times. I guess the Ross Perot, and the aquarium downtown are larger and more complete than the old museum and aquarium, but not nearly as easy to access as they were at Fair Park.
What have been people's favorites at the Fair over the years, and why? Oh, as a kid, I dearly loved that fair food (which I realize now was less than fair). Corny Dogs anyone?
