State Fair

State Fair

Wow! No State Fair this year. First year since WWII that there is no Texas State Fair in Dallas. Fully understandable that it has to be cancelled, but a real bummer. Of course, I haven't been in decades, but that doesn't mean that I don't think it is sad that it isn't to be, or that I wouldn't like to go (in a normal year) if I were within reasonable striking distance.

Wow, great memories of the fair. My favorites were always the (never politically correct) Automobile Building, livestock, and the Midway. Who could not appreciate The Comet (the old wooden roller coaster)? I also liked the Hall of State, the aquarium, and the Natural History Museum, but those were available year round, and I sometimes went at other times. I guess the Ross Perot, and the aquarium downtown are larger and more complete than the old museum and aquarium, but not nearly as easy to access as they were at Fair Park.

What have been people's favorites at the Fair over the years, and why? Oh, as a kid, I dearly loved that fair food (which I realize now was less than fair). Corny Dogs anyone?

Here is a link to the official statement:

Plus the part about Cotton Bowl games:

"While the State Fair of Texas is canceled for 2020, the NCAA, respective conferences, and participating universities – the University of Texas & University of Oklahoma and Prairie View A&M University & Grambling State University – will be in charge of making decisions regarding the football games that occur at Cotton Bowl Stadium during this unprecedented time of COVID-19. Should football be played this fall, the schools will be playing in the Cotton Bowl as scheduled, despite the cancellation of the 2020 State Fair. We will share those details as soon as we know more."
