I have two stories on Record Street in Downtown Dallas - Need HELP as to which one is correct.

1. Changed from Jefferson after President Thomas Jefferson in 1920’s for James K. Polk Record, long-time County Clerk and to avoid confusion with Jefferson in Oak Cliff.

2. Changed from Jefferson after President Thomas Jefferson in 1920’s for James Ellin Record, long-time County Clerk and to avoid confusion with Jefferson in Oak Cliff. (James Ellin Record was son of Joseph "Joel" W. Record and Grandson of George Washington Record for which Record Crossing was named - Record Crossing was a ford on the Elm Fork of the Trinity near George W. Record’s gristmill used by residents of the Sowers Community (now Irving) on their way to Dallas.

Can't find a James K. Polk Record in the list of elected officials in Dallas County.

The "Historical List of Elected Officials, Dallas County," compiled by the District Clerk's office and available online through the City of Dallas website, lists "Jim Record" as a Dallas County Clerk. He was elected on Nov. 8, 1910, and served to 1914.

He is also buried in Pioneer Cemetery downtown and has an historical marker, IIRC
