Corny dogs

Skip Fletcher of Fletcher's Corny Dogs died recently. One thing I never understood is why one could never get/purchase those things outside the State Fair or other celebratory venues?? Jim

Actually, there have been a couple of short-lived year-round Fletcher's restaurants. In the early '80s (IIRC) they had a stand in the food court at Prestonwood Town Center. Going back further, there was a Fletcher's State Fair Drive-In (in the '50s and '60s) on Samuell Blvd., across from the Tenison Park golf course. There's been a picture of it posted on the "If you grew up in Dallas, you may remember..." Facebook group. The drive-in also sold hamburgers, and beer, with inside dining and curb service. The building is still there; supposedly it's the El Palmeras night club.
