Igloo Shape Building Perry & First

Late 40's early 50's there was an Igloo Shaped building at the corner of First and Parry Ave across from Fair Park. The Craft & Growler at 3601 Parry has a photo of their building showing the Igloo across the street.

Anyone know what the business was at that time.

Could it have been a Polar Bear Ice Cream shop?

No - Polar Bear was my first thought being from the Cliff myself. That would have been too easy.

Was it at the southwest corner? In the 1952 image on Historic Aerials, there's a small white round building there. It looks like it was pretty small, maybe 15 or 20 feet in diameter. In the 1956 image, it's gone

Next to Goodyear Building was an Igloo Shaped building (kinda) a CAFE in 1950.

The link you provided does not show or mention an igloo shaped building or a CAFE (cafe?). It describes the Goodyear building, a service station, and a fire station.

Is this the photo you saw at Craft & Growler (from Jim Wheat's site)? If not, could you take a picture and post it? I think I'm going to write a short post for my blog, Flashback Dallas. Cool little building!

I sorta remember that building in the photo from when I was a little kid(not the geodesic dome). The "igloo" as pictured seems to have been a beer joint or cafe in the photo. I surmise it is dated early 40s. Jim

Yep this is the place not the picture. the picture as I recall was from down Parry looking toward the Igloo shaped building.

1945 City Directory shows Gus' Place, 3519 Parry Ave, Owner Gus Pappas.

Hmmmm... Gus Pappas? I wonder if he was related to the Pappas Brothers, as in the Pappas Bros. steakhouses, Pappadeaux, and Pappasitos?

There was also "LIttle Gus" on Greenville back in the 80's. I'm pretty sure they're all related somehow.

This is what I found on the building.

1939 – Igloo Café, 3509 Parry Ave.
1941 – 1945 – Gus’ Place Restaurant, 3519 Parry Ave., Gus Pappas (Owner) Greek immigrant (1897 – 1960). From 1947 - 1960 he owned Gus' Place Restaurant, 3318 Grand Ave, Dallas, Dallas County, TX. I understand that in the 1950's the person over concessions at Fair Park was named Gus Pappas, not sure if it is the same one. His wife was Blanche Weaver.
1947 - 1953 – Victory Liquor Store, 3519 Parry Ave.
1956 - Vacant
