Trinity River Navigation Project

Anybody have knowledge of why the Trinity River Navigation Project never came about.

I know some roadways west of Walton Walker Boulevard (Loop 12) and south of Singleton Boulevard were named as if a port already existed, River Wharf Road, Sea Harbor Road, Ruder Street and Barge Lane, so I assume this is where the Dallas Port was to be located.

Seems like it would be a great project if it also served the Port of Houston.

Well, here are a couple of reasons that it should never come about: 1. The Trinity does not have adequate discharge most years or for most of the year to support barge traffic. When it does, it is a raging monster. 2. The project is too expensive for the potential returns.

The reason the project has not been pushed further than it has, however, seems mainly to be political. Some want it, some don't, and those who want it have never been able to persuade enough of those against to get it done.
