I know some of the readers of this Phorum no longer live in Dallas but occasionally come to Dallas to do research. I am sharing the following announcement from the Dallas Public Library. I have been fortunate that every time I travelled to another city to do research the library or courthouse was open. I imagine it would be very upsetting to travel and then find your destination was closed. Here is the announcement exactly as I received it today:

“The 7th floor of the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library, home to the Dallas History & Archives and Fine Books collections, is in the final stages of a year-long renovation. To begin preparations for reopening the floor to the public, we have temporarily ceased research and photograph orders. Our temporary reading room located on the 1st floor will close starting Monday, March 21 for approximately two months. Staff will not be able to assist customers or answer queries during this time, as efforts will be focused on moving everything back to the seventh floor for its grand reopening. While our materials will be temporarily inaccessible, the library catalog and our digital collections are always available. We invite you to come visit us when we reopen. The exact date will be announced soon, and with much fanfare!”
