PIRATE'S CAVE NIGHT CLUB

Anybody else here remember this club in downtown Dallas?
There were silver dollars imbedded in the sidewalk at street level and to enter the club, one walked down to the lower level on a rather steep staircase.

I don't remember The Pirate's Cave, but my late mother-in-law told a story about going there during the war (WW2 the Big War) when she lived in Dallas and worked in an aircraft plant. She said she went there with some friends from work and smelled some strange smoke. When she asked what that smell was they told her to be quiet and ignore it.
Could this have been the same club?

Thanks for your reply. Just called my son (born in 1957) to ask him what he remembered about it as it was a comment from him which prompted my inquiry. He does not remember any details, just the money embedded in the sidewalk (he thinks).
Will have to do more research as I do remember going there with his father in the late 40s. Probably on Elm Street or Main Street.

Dallas Morning News, January 1, 1951 has an advertisement for the Silver Dollar Cafe and Pirates Cave Club, both located at 1602 Main Street. It shows the owner/operator to be Sam Poullas. I have heard this name before, now if I can just remember where and from whom.

Again, if I recall correctly 1602 Main Street is located just east of the Stone Place Crosswalk on the south side of Main Street and this location is now a Bar/Club named "The Joule".

The 1959 Polk Dallas Directory lists a Sam A. Poullas. It lists his occupation as "Tranna; Town House Delicatessen @ 1602a Main."

I don't know what "Tranna." is an abbreviation for.

I located some real estate records indicating Sam Poullus' wife's name is Tranna. They resided in the Oak Lawn Area on Rawlings Street.
