I was looking for an old friend of mine I met when i was an intern at the Dallas Morning News one summer in the 1970s. You grow away from old friends sometimes and then you try to find them.
His name was Charles Paul Adler and he was born July. 4, 1934 and died March. 6, 1994 apparently in Dallas,Texas.
He's intered at Sparkman Hillcrest Memorial Park.
A nice stranger sent me a photo of his very modest US Army tombstone ( He was a veteran) and when I asked the funeral home, they said the obituary was too old for their database. They only give that info to relatives anyway, and I am not one.
I think Charlie was at the Morning News for almost 30 years and he worked the Universal Desk as a copy editor. He liked to write about bridge and was a lifemaster or whatever in the game.
The HUGE old press was housed in a huge building across the street from the editorial and composing rooms which were letterpress bacj then and i had a cousin who was a master linotype operator in the International Typographical Union who worked in the backshop setting the financial reports.
It was something to see!
I found out he was dead two days ago.
I then wondered why nobody had told me and who I would notify when i realized that everyone who would have known charlie had already passed on to that great newspaper in the sky and nobody is left but me as far as I know.
My e-mail addy is
joeocho88@yahoo.com. if someone would be so good as to send it to me.
You used to be able to go to eth City of Dallas genealogy site but now you almost need a Top Secret clearance to even get on the site.
I am disabled and don't get around very well or I would come up to Dallas myself.
I don't think there is even anyone I know anymore and I probably wouldn't recognize it.I was last there in 1991.
I have a lot of questions about how it is now.
My Dad was a Dallas cop who met my Mom who was working as an ER nurse at one of the hospitals. I spent the first 6 or so years of my life in Dallas,Euless,Grand Prairie and came back in 1981 to work in protective services until the recession forced me out in 1990-91.
I have so many questions to ask.
Dallas,TX will always be my home
I'd love to come back home but I am not sure how far my Social Security check would go. The yuppies are pricing me out of Central Texas .
Thank you for reading this..
