End of Cole Club 4926 Cole Avenue

In October 1969, the Velvet Underground played a short residency at "The End Of Cole Avenue", a small club in Dallas reputedly owned by a rich Texan who could afford to invite bands he liked to come and play. The story of how local sound engineer Jeff Legood recorded 2 of those nights is probably well known by now. The best I can tell this club might have been located in the brick building that presently houses Javiers Restaurant. Javiers address is 4912 Cole and the Club's was 4926 Cole. Cole Avenue ends at this building at the intersection with Harvard. Does anybody recall this club or know if it was in the Javier building? The building is of old brick construction.

Would love to have those bootlegs, and found them (to some degree) at SugarMegs.org
A lot of the second night has been officially released so they could not be posted as boots...

It looks like Javier's is a sort of strip center building. It may be that it was occupied by several businesses back then and the End of Cole Ave. was one of them at number 4926. The other option is that the EoCA was torn down and the site is now occupied by the big glass office building at the corner of Monticello and Cole.

Here's a small website about some ticket/handbill art for the EoCA: [people.missouristate.edu]

I was there for one of those shows, didn't realize there wwas more than one. Also, I've heard some cuts from the bootleg a while back by just Googling "Velvet Underground End of Cole 1969". Can't remember the actual site and it was quite a while ago.

End of Cole was just to the north of Javier's in an old strip shopping center. Right before you crossed the railroad tracks (now Katy Trail).

Sat on floor, psychodelic light show, legit touring bands. It was an amazing place. The same building housed Olive Thomas clothing & hair salon. Quite the hippy mecca for Dallas in the 60s.
