THE LETOT AREA OF DALLAS

WE ARE TRYING TO LOCATE INFORMATION ON THE OLD LETOT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ON LOMBARDY DRIVE. SPECIFICALLY, THE MASCOT OR SYMBOL OF THE SCHOOL. WE'RE WANTING TO USE THIS AS LOGOS AT OUR FIRE STATION ON LOMBARDY.

Since it was an elementary school in the era when public schools didn't rum rampant with Pro Sports as they do now, it may not have had a "team" mascot or logo. I hope there may be some board members who respond further. Maybe it should be the "cotton boll" since it was a farming community; here's an 1891 article:

May I ask if your family has any memorilbilia, or family stories, about their stay in the La Reunion Colony?

Are you asking about Illinois or France? Clement Letot came from France to La Salle County, Illinois, in 1860I believe. He moved to what is now Dallas in 1876 (???)and established the town of Letot. That is where the Letot School is and the surrounding area. I am not sure what you are asking about (La Reunion County.)

Oh my goodness, thank you very much. I was under the mistaken assumption that the Letot family name in Dallas had been affiliated with the La Reunion Colony of the 1850s and 1860s which had been situated very nearby. But I see that that was some twenty years earlier. You have answered my question.

I attended Letot Elementary school 1957-1963. And remember the mascot as being a lion. If you havn't found the mascot yet, I'll look thru my old diplomas, awards, etc. I'm interested in anything the Letot area.

Looking for people who attended LETOT and finished the second grade in May 1963.

LETOT WAS not in La REUNION. He IS buried behind the present cemetery.// Interesting ols Vet., & PERSON.
The school was dep. built of native stone. Was an old blk cemetery there in a ditch just north of that intersecetion,
behind JOHN DEERE . HELD 30 soals... I 35 cut the entire comm'y in half.

I went to Letot in the late 50's and early 60's. We were the Letot Lions. I recall we used the Detroit Lions logo, when we used it, which was rare. No logo was used on the athletic uniforms, because we each bought our own from Doak Walker's store on Lovers Lane. We had a single school color and that was red. We used to hang out at your fire station frequently after school. The firemen encouraged it. We also had a Cub Scout hut (directly behind the fire station and overlooking Joe's Creek, which was a real creek back then). It was a great neighborhood and a great time to be a kid.

gary hamilton went to letot and would have finished the 7th grage in 1957. he went on to rusk jr high and graduated from thomas jefferson in 1962 he passed away march 01 2012 in colorado he was planning to come to our t j 50th reunion but he had lung cancer and passed away before he could come in may, gary was a friendly guy with a big smile always and all his classmates loved him he was a, d j on klif in the early seventies gary will be missed by all who knew him being a d j was his only profession my condolences to his wife and family

Sorry to hear about Gary Hamilton, he was a true local and much of our young KLIF cruising was done to his DJ ramble. I also enjoyed these replies about Letot, which doesn't get much press anymore. Glad to hear it presented the rural beauty I've always suspected when driving around there.

I used to hang with Gary in junior high, we played summer league baseball together, too. We moved to Waco in 59, and I ran into him in the mid 60's when he came here to dj on a local radio -

I am looking for a class picture or school annual for the Letot School from possibly 1932, likely 1931 or before. My grandmother Mary Lillian was a student there. Their mother (my great grandmother Annie L.) may have been married to Ed Jones. I understand my grandmother and her siblings went by the same last name at school to keep it easy so she could have gone by Woodall, but her given names were Mary Lillian Gossett. Her older brother Howard Woodall and other brothers formed the TAT flight school at Love Field in the 1920's. One brother Paul Green died while giving in flight instructions over Sherman Texas (I think in 1932). Thanks, Paul in Fredericksburg
