Sergeant Donald Frederick Flusche Jr., Badge Number 3305, age 50, died as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident which occurred on August 29, 1992.
Sergeant Flusche was assigned a civilian observer, Craig Eric Evans, age 22, an applicant with the Fort Worth Police Department undergoing the hiring process at the beginning of his First Watch shift.
Sergeant Flusche was en route to an Assist Officer call, northbound on Greenville Avenue approaching Pineland Drive and entered an unforeseen road hazard, a water run off from the lawn sprinklers at the American Heart Association Building located at 7272 Greenville Avenue, the southeast corner of Pineland Drive and Greenville Avenue.
It is believed Sergeant Flusche’s vehicle hydroplaned at which time the vehicle began skidding, it continued onto the center median of Greenville Avenue colliding with a bridge railing at Jenkins Branch Creek. The vehicle continued in a northerly direction falling thirty feet to the creek area below the bridge.
Sergeant Flusche received a traumatic brain injury in addition to internal injuries. He was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital by Careflite Helicopter where he remained until September 22, 1992 at which time he was transferred to an Extended Care and Rehabilitation facility. He died as a result of these injuries on March 17, 2001.
The passenger in Sergeant Flusche’s vehicle, Craig Eric Evans died as a result of his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sergeant Flusche was the son of Sergeant Donald F. Flusche Sr, a retired Dallas Police Officer and the brother of Sergeant Michael Flusche an active Dallas Police Officer.
May I add, I worked for Don, a better supervisor and person could not be found, besides being my supervisor, he was a friend as was his father and brother.
